hiatus update - what i'm doing, where everything is, and also directing a play is hard

Image
Hello everyone! I'm posting on a Friday, shocking, I know. I just wanted to give an update on my un-scheduled hiatus. I am currently polishing the last draft of my book (for now, who knows if more edits will come), and that, along with directing a play which is bringing up interesting challenges. I plan to write a post when we perform that is gonna be called something like "things i learned by directing a play." Look for that around November 11th *wink wink*. It's actually making me think about making a new series called "things i learned" to chronicle my new experiences and things I learned (clearly). What do you think? It's my name! My book is going well, thanks for asking although I'm not sure you even did. As you all probably know, I'm represented by Hartline Literary Agency , specifically Cyle Young and Tessa Emily Hall. It's really weird to go onto the website and see my name listed––but cool too. I'm polishing it a...

sincerely, me

a letter to me before my senior year in the style of "sincerely, me" from Dear Evan Hansen. | | | Dear Olivia, We've been way too out of touch. Things have been crazy, and it sucks that we don't talk that much. But I should tell you you've been doin' okay. You've learned when to stand your ground and when to walk away. I gotta tell you growing up has been real nice                                                        been real cool                                                        been real weird. And I just wish anxiety hadn't interfered. I like my job I love my job, but each day's another fight If I just eat healthy food, then everything might be alright. Wait, no. If I stop stay...

staying gold

First off, sorry this is late. I was going  to  paint my room this weekend, and I wanted it yellow. We brought the swatch in and they didn't have the color so they had to mix it. We poured out the color into the pan and it looked right, so we painted it the yellow color I wanted--but when it dried it turned a disgusting shade of green. So, now I'm sleeping in the basement for 5 days and we're repainting it the color it originally was. Chaos has happened, and I didn't get to write. But here's the post now! | | | As I get older, I realize a few things. One of them being I’m no longer a kid. I don’t get all the freedom I used to, but in some ways I get more than ever before. I am not allowed to be childish and joke around because I’m supposed to be mature. I'm not allowed to waste days away just hanging out with friends,  because  there are things I need to do, and just one day off can mess up my schedule. I can't go to parks unless I...

apology, updates, and q&a

Image
I am sorry! I missed last week because it was the week after the play and I was absolutely EXHAUSTED. Also it was my birthday so I had a load of crap to do with people. Either way! I'm going to try and get back up on schedule. This is my job, I can't slack off. However, it's finals for me so I don't make any promises until June. Either way. I actually don't  have a topic for today. So... I've decided to give updates and open a Q&A in the comments! I'm planning on starting a Youtube Channel soon, and I am planning on doing multiple types of videos (books, writing, art, cooking, vlogs, etc). I have a tentative name for it (not my own, because I like the channel names that aren't people's actual names) that I'm not going to tell you because SPOILERS. I've furthered my agent quest, and am most likely going to be signing on with them (more on that when it happens). And yeah, that's about it. So about the Q&A. I'm plan...

the Mike Stamfords of the world

Image
For those of you who have seen BBC Sherlock, you understand what I'm talking about. For those of you who didn't, allow me to explain before I get into all the metaphors and poetic confusing stuff. Mike Stamford is this guy. He was friends with John Watson at St. Bartholomew's Hospital back when they were studying to be doctors. Stamford is a teacher at Bart's now, and John is an ex-army doctor. They ran into each other in London when Watson came back from war. They got talking about how hard it is to find a flat in London, and Stamford went "you know, I met another guy today who is having the same problem. Maybe you two could be flatmates." That other guy was Sherlock. And thus Stamford initiated one of the most famous bromances, partnerships, friendships etc. to exist. Now back to my point. Loads of people think that they're useless. They have no purpose. That they're just here to eat cake and wear band/fandom merch and pet...

from the page to the stage

I'm an author. I've got a book published, I've got 41 planned, and I write more than I probably should. I'm also an actor. I find solace on stage, in the lives of other people who I get to be--even if it is just for six hours on the weekend. So, inevitably, these two worlds would collide. They first collided when I started looking at colleges. I wanted to be an actor... but I also wanted to be an author. So I settled on an Theatre major with a Writing minor. They most recently collided a few weeks ago on Saturday, when I found some old stories I had written. They weren't the best (they ranged from me at 6 years old to me at 15), but one thing that I found was a one-act script I wrote for Creative Writing my Sophomore year of high school. It was actually pretty good! I mean, I had some awkward sentences and some sage directions were confusing, but it was good. And that's when it hit me: I'm gonna write a play. Not just for the sake of writing a pl...

2016 Wrap Up

Image
WOOOOOO HAPPY NEW YEARS! For those in the Central Time Zone like me, I'm posting this at midnight b/c New Years. WOOO! WELCOME TO 2017! Hopefully it'll be better than 2016. Sorry about not posting this last week, I was on Christmas break and I was working on finalizing my book so... I didn't have time to blog. Anyways! I did a lot of fun stuff this year, so let's recap: Life • June       • I started this blog! With the help of some people from the Minneapolis Young Writer's Workshop, I was able to get this up and running.       • I attended the Minneapolis Young Writer's Workshop! It was so fun. I met so many amazing fellow authors and I've kept up contact with most of them. I'm going to be attending again come June, and if you want to hear about my past experiences you can click here , and if you want to register to attend yourself, you can find that here ! The lineup for this year includes Jonathan Friesen, Sabaa Tahir, Shannon Hal...

Life Choices

Image
In honor of the fantastic book INTERMISSION by Serena Chase (which you can preorder  here  and I suggest you do because holy freaking crap it is fantastic), I have decided to write this post on my life choices and what I plan on doing once I graduate. | | | We are starlight on snow. The reflection of something already beautiful—absorbed, reflected, and remade into something . . . more.  And this kiss . . . This kiss is everything I’ve needed to say . . . and longed to hear. Sixteen-year-old Faith Prescott eagerly awaits the day she will exchange her small Iowa hometown for the bright lights of Broadway, but her success-driven parents want her to pursue a more practical career, labeling “artsy” people—including their daughter—as foolish dreamers worthy of little more than disdain. When Faith meets nineteen-year-old Noah Spencer she discovers someone who understands her musical theatre dreams . . . because he shares them.  Faith’s mother despises everything about...

Diversity in Media

Image
Being writers, we have to create characters. You can't have a story without a character. Characters drive the story, give the readers someone to root for. But creating characters creates problems in the readerdom. Diversity isn't a thing that really exists. Many people try their best to actually represent everyone, but in doing so they tend to exclude others. Body Types. With girls, there's been a big push to love yourself for who you are. Big girls, curvy girls, all of them are being uplifted in this time. But in doing so, the skinny girls are being shamed. You know Daisy Ridley? The wonderful, talented, beautiful actress who played Rey in the newest Star Wars (and also the person in this photo)? Someone posted an image of Rey with a speech bubble saying "what were my casting directors thinking? don't they know real woman have curves?" Let me just say something. All women are different. ALL WOMEN ARE DIFFERENT. ALL. WOMEN. ARE. DIFFERENT. Everyone, ok...

September Wrap-Up

Image
Sorry this is late everybody! And also sorry that there's no Overwriter's post. This week has been crazy and I've been stressed and I haven't been feeling well so I didn't write this until today (October 3rd). But without further ado! Life • I've began bullet journaling in my school planner. I can't keep up bullet journaling normally, but because it's school I've got something to do every day. So, there's that. • I've had to stop my workouts on such a daily basis. Now I do intense workouts on Saturday and Sunday so I can still stay in shape but I've got enough time to do homework. • School has taken a destructive toll on me. Everything is very exhausting, everything is assigned on one day, and everything is due at the same time. It's not fun. Junior year is absolute horrid. Writing • I've gotten feedback from Angelle Pilkington, and she's suggested many helpful critiques that are making my book so ...
