when is it enough? - an original poem

When is it enough? When should we do something? When the boys that follow her to her classes Move from standing three inches away To shoving her against the wall? When the girl who claims A boy has been stalking her Ends up with a black eye Because he was sick Of her saying "no"? When is it enough? Isn't that enough? Isn't the brokenness of the victims, The mental harassment, The physical fear, enough? What people write off as flirting Sends a girl into a panic, Because one time She had accepted the flirting And was manipulated, And has that lesson Burned into her brain. When is it enough? What people consider as "boys being boys" Scars an eleven year old girl Who has been hit Because a male classmate Wanted to kiss her And she said no. And it's not just women. When is it enough? When does the boy who likes art And has been saying His classmates attacked him Ge...

January Wrap-Up

New Year, new format for the monthly wrap-ups! Okay, it won't be too different... but I don't really like the bullet points. I mean, I do because it's nice and organized... but I feel like it's a bit too hard to read. What do you guys think? Also, I'm writing this during homeroom and it's Movie Character Day so I'm dressed as Enjolras from Les Mis because that's a movie and Enjolras is my obsessive, patriotic child. ANYWAYS I'm very late with this and I am so sorry. Busy school and busy book all up in my schedule, messing it up so I have no free time. ANYWAYS! LET'S CONTINUE WITH THE NEW FORMAT! writing This January I didn't do much writing. I know, I know, that's my job , but still. I didn't write a lot, but I did edit a lot. I got through my manuscript twice , and my mom even looked over it once for little errors I may have missed. Mended and Torn  is set to be released in a week or so! I did, however, write the fi...

2016 Wrap Up

Image
WOOOOOO HAPPY NEW YEARS! For those in the Central Time Zone like me, I'm posting this at midnight b/c New Years. WOOO! WELCOME TO 2017! Hopefully it'll be better than 2016. Sorry about not posting this last week, I was on Christmas break and I was working on finalizing my book so... I didn't have time to blog. Anyways! I did a lot of fun stuff this year, so let's recap: Life • June       • I started this blog! With the help of some people from the Minneapolis Young Writer's Workshop, I was able to get this up and running.       • I attended the Minneapolis Young Writer's Workshop! It was so fun. I met so many amazing fellow authors and I've kept up contact with most of them. I'm going to be attending again come June, and if you want to hear about my past experiences you can click here , and if you want to register to attend yourself, you can find that here ! The lineup for this year includes Jonathan Friesen, Sabaa Tahir, Shannon Hal...

November Wrap Up

Image
Hello lovelies! So, today is the last day in November. And I am writing this as I wait for my English teacher to recover the powerpoint she accidentally deleted. Anyways, this is my November Wrap Up! Life • Kay. So. I have had the most uneventful November ever. • OH it snowed! I guess that's news... maybe... I dunno. • Uh... I learned how to bind my own books. I'm making notebooks and such for Christmas presents. • I've watched a lot of YouTube... specifically PolandBananasBooks and ItsWayPastMyBedtime • Hawaii Five-0 is taking over my life it's gorgeous and so is Steve • Also MOANA?! I'm so excited to see it, the music is gorgeous I mean some of it is written by the King of Broadway Lin Manuel-Miranda so how can it NOT be amazing Writing • So NaNoWriMo... I didn't do it. I know that I said I have a plan... and I did... I just didn't do it. I still have the book planned, I'm still going to write it at some point, but not for NaNo...

OCTOBER WRAP UP and super special announcement hehehe

Image
Hello lovelies! SO, if you're new to this blog (which I'm not sure if anyone is but if you are hey sup welcome), I do these every month to wrap up my goals for the month and what I accomplished. SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO! Life • I've begun to be more outgoing. WAT AN INTROVERTED AUTHOR BEING OUTGOING WAT HAPPENED? I'm honestly just not filtering my speech as much. Usually I over-analyze literally EVERYTHING I say, and I'm not doing it that much. I've actually managed to make a few of those annoying little generic #swag boys in my school fear me because I've begun to speak my mind, and I am very proud of that. They're not good kids, and honestly I could see them being arrested for Sexual Harassment. I feel I'm doing my duty and protecting my fellow women, cus if they're scared of little 'ol me, they got a rude awakening. • I've begun to pursue my acting career. As I talked about in my  Life Choices  post, I plan on being both ...

September Wrap-Up

Sorry this is late everybody! And also sorry that there's no Overwriter's post. This week has been crazy and I've been stressed and I haven't been feeling well so I didn't write this until today (October 3rd). But without further ado! Life • I've began bullet journaling in my school planner. I can't keep up bullet journaling normally, but because it's school I've got something to do every day. So, there's that. • I've had to stop my workouts on such a daily basis. Now I do intense workouts on Saturday and Sunday so I can still stay in shape but I've got enough time to do homework. • School has taken a destructive toll on me. Everything is very exhausting, everything is assigned on one day, and everything is due at the same time. It's not fun. Junior year is absolute horrid. Writing • I've gotten feedback from Angelle Pilkington, and she's suggested many helpful critiques that are making my book so ...

August Wrap Up

Image
Hello Lovelies! Sorry this didn't come out on Monday, I had a back-to-school thing and then I went to the zoo with my friend. So, this was going to be a different topic and then I looked at my calendar and realized it was the last day of August. So you will get it next week. Either way, let's get started! Life • Bullet Journaling. I mentioned this in my July wrap-up. I tried it out for all of July and the beginning of August, but I just couldn't do it. I became very busy with my book, school preparations, and other stuff. I kinda just forgot about it. • I began a regular work out regimen. Now, being a writer, I spend most of my time on the computer. When I was little, I was incredibly active. And when I was incredibly active, I was very healthy (despite being allergic to the entire world). So I started a workout modeled after The Arrow. I found it on Nerd Fitness, a website with fandom-themed workouts. This is the one I took inspiration from. I didn'...
