the human behind the gun - a glimpse into the chapter

So, for those of you who know about this, I am part of an international writing collaboration called Project Canvas. Project Canvas is a book for teen writers by teen writers, and in it we all share tips, tricks, relatable author life content, and how-to's (of course, all of them have very open possibilities since everyone writes differently. It is merely to give help to those who want it).

My chapter in this book is called The Human Behind the Gun... and it is all about crafting a great villain.

So, in this little post, you get a glimpse of my chapter and ten the headers in the chapter! Hope you enjoy it and buy the book when it comes out––I hope you all enjoy the book too.

DRAWN TO DARKNESS.
We all love good a good villain. Some we love, some we hate, some we love to hate, and some we hate to love. But the villain we are presented with on the page or screen is just the product of layers and layers of planning. Sad backstories are only the basics, and sometimes they aren’t even relevant. In order to fully develop a villain that will get the readers screaming at the ink and pages, there are many things that need to be explored. Their name should be important, whether by meaning or sound. Their previous life should have events that formed them into who they are now. There needed to be a turning point in that life that caused them to completely turn villainous. They need a motive. They need to be human––and yes, this applies to villains who aren’t even human, like faeries and aliens.

THE ABC’S OF VILLAIN-MAKING.

“WHEN I WAS YOUR AGE…”

ALL THE OTHERS.

WHY MUST YOU DO THIS?

THEY BLEED WHEN THEY FALL DOWN.

I am not the creator of Project Canvas. Caroline Meek and Olivia Rogers are. But they reached out to the teen author community with this book and, well, here we are! Their blogs are linked in their names.

I hope you enjoyed that, and I hope that you enjoy the book too! The Project Canvas website is here and the Project Canvas blog is here!
